Due to the hydraulic fluid and possible contaminants in elevator equipment, the shaft sump pump is required to detect the presence of oil/hydrocarbons prior to pumping. These systems can fit a wide array of applications that require discrimination between the planned media and possible hydrocarbons due to equipment failure.
The panel uses a conductivity sensor to determine if the liquid being pumped is a hydrocarbon or water. If a hydrocarbon is detected, the panel will alarm and disengage the pump until it detects the presence of water. Some counties require the system to continue to pump despite the presence of a hydrocarbon, in which case the panel can be changed to alarm only, and continue to pump while sending the hydrocarbon detected alarm.
